Creating a new blog, and keeping this one going

I'm working on creating a separate blog for Friends of Danang. My hope is to eventually get more personal writing on here again (including my personal views on our Friends of Danang projects). But maybe more importantly, I want Friends of Danang as an organization to have its own blog, hopefully with many members doing the blogging. It's my idea, so I'll get it started. You can see the very early work on it at friendsofdanang.blogspot.com.

There's also a story in today's Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about the Rocky Bleier/Jan Scruggs visit to Pittsburgh to talk about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Center.

Miss Universe Pageant in Vietnam

There's an AP story on the International Herald Tribune site about Vietnam hosting tonight's Miss Universe pageant. You can read it here. I love this quote from Miss Vietnam:
"I want to introduce my country and my culture and our history to everybody," said Nguyen Thuy Lam, whose traditional costume is a Vietnamese ao dai, a colorful silk pantsuit. "I feel very confident when I wear the ao dai. I wish everyone would wear it and feel confident too."

I need an ao dai. And I need to go back to pick out the silk and have one made. Or two or three.

DC Dragonflies

I just got a text message from Aunt Debbie, my dad's little sister. She's in DC, with Uncle David, at the Wall, with the dragonflies! I haven't written about it in awhile, but I have this thing with dragonflies...little spirits is sort of how I think of them....and since Father's Day 2005 I have seen them each time I've been to the Wall. (Which, unfortunately, has not been often lately.) And I've had TONS of dragonfly sightings in Vietnam.

Dragonfly sightings are hard to prove. Dragonflies are difficult to photograph when they're happily darting about.
